Article Search

The new Actuzine search engine is a treasure for finding useful articles in the magazine, covering actuarial science and the Hong Kong market specifically, but much wider than that!

From the old ASHK newsletter to the rebranded magazine, there are many great articles containing decades of practical wisdom from seasoned actuaries, with a central focus on the insurance industry in Hong Kong but covering Asian and global topics too.

Until now, when we wanted to find a specific article, we had to flip through dozens of PDFs manually, a painful process which would have held many members back.

In a collaboration between HKU and ASHK, a team of students was set up to create and populate a searchable index of articles. The working team is now happy to announce that we are launching the search index tool for the magazine. We hope the tool helps you track down these hidden gems that lie hidden somewhere on the ASHK website.

The working group consists of five ASHK student volunteers and soon-to-be actuaries from HKU, namely Brian Poon, Winky Lai, Mimi Tse, Aiden Wan, and Hannah Chiu. Moreover, we would like to show great appreciation to Greg Solomon, the project advisor who has supported us with this project.

How to use the tool

Type a keyword or topic (e.g., HKRBC, insurtech, COVID-19). The tool will return articles associated with the concerned keywords.

A few tips:

- The search is NOT case-sensitive

- Try synonyms if your first search returns nothing (e.g., "risk-based capital" instead of "HKRBC").

- Try different acronyms: "HKRBC" works; "HK RBC" may not

- The tool uses AND logic, which means entering more keywords narrows your search

- Students: search "Student Corner" for your exclusive starter pack.
